HISTORY

In 2020, Canon McMillan School District began the construction of a new middle school, resulting in a planned closure of the existing facility in the Borough of Canonsburg.

With this announcement, community leaders realized this news as an opportunity to create a multifaceted community center to support Canonsburg and the surrounding areas. Over the following year, research was conducted, local and regional offerings were reviewed, and a board of directors was ultimately formed. In 2021, Canonsburg Educational and Cultural Institute (CECI) received its 501(c)3 designation to move forward and in the summer of 2023, CECI entered into an agreement with the District to purchase the property.

Since that time, much progress has been made. To learn more, click here.

THE CAMPUS

The property consists of approximately 5.6 acres of land improved with 150,000 sq.ft. consisting of classrooms, cafeteria, gymnasium, pool and related support spaces. A fully functional historic 826-seat auditorium that was built in 1931 also exists on the property.

A rich history runs with the land. As part of acquiring the Property, CECI will continue to house The Jefferson Historical Society and maintain the log cabin that gave birth to Jefferson College, the first such institution west of the Alleghenies.

MISSION

Provide an environment to strengthen community bonds, nurture and inspire the human spirit, and enhance the overall quality of life through educational opportunities, health and wellness resources, and cultural enrichment.

VISION

Canonsburg Educational and Cultural Institute will be the leading regional comprehensive community facility for educational enrichment, personal well-being, and exceptional cultural experiences.
